Adams County Sheriff: Charges filed after baby abandoned in middle of road on Christmas
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office has arrested the biological parents of a 1-month-old boy who was abandoned in the middle of the road, apparently on Christmas morning.
According to a social media report, deputies responded to a 911 call around 9:20 a.m. from someone who saw the child in the middle of the road near 7490 Pecos Avenue and stopped to help. The area is a busy thoroughfare near an intersection with Interstate 36.
The person reported discovering the child in a car seat wearing only a diaper.
Investigators searched the area for body camera footage and people who may have been in the area when the child was abandoned. The agency said the child appeared to be mixed race or Hispanic but did not provide photos of the child.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office initially said it was working to reunite the child with his family and find the person who abandoned the child. At approximately 4:30 p.m., the agency said it had been in contact with the infant’s family members and continued investigating. The agency said it would pursue criminal charges if necessary.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said it had arrested the child’s biological parents and was seeking to charge them with felony child abuse in the case. The parents were identified as Jarvis Sims, 42, and Christina Thurman, 33.
The child remains under observation at Children’s Hospital as a precaution, according to the sheriff’s office.
