Crossing Cultural Borders Without Leaving

By Sameh Selim, a member of the American Press Agency.

Cultural borders are barriers set up by failed educational systems, which are, of course, primarily government systems that, unfortunately, have instilled in the American people, for example, isolationism and cultural isolation. The limited nature of American culture has made American citizens isolated from the world, lacking cultural and social awareness, unfeeling toward other societies and unfamiliar with their cultures. This problem has several causes. This problem began with educational racism or an educational system that is flawed in its approach to thinking, interacting with others, and accepting others, despite the fact that American society is fundamentally a society of immigrants from all over the world. Despite this, immigrants within this society have come to live in isolated groups, without integrating into the larger American society, which does not allow them much in this regard, such as obtaining certain job opportunities or greater cultural and social interaction. This is because American citizens, who were born in America, always set limits in their interactions with others based on their education, the absence of a family role at times, a lack of culture and openness, or a lack of interest in the world beyond their surroundings. The misleading educational, cultural, and media system has become a major obstacle and barrier for the average American citizen, falsely portraying them as the world's number one citizen, while other peoples are below their level, even if they include scientists, inventors, skilled workers, or artists. To overcome this problem within American society, we must cross cultural boundaries, change the sterile educational model, open up to others, and avoid misleading media. Further deterioration of the situation will lead to serious economic and social consequences, most importantly, a decline in tourism and investment.
