Explanation of the car insurance policy

Written by: Mr. Samy Beshay

Car insurance is compulsory in the state of California, and the law requires at least insurance coverage for third party liability (Liability), and the minimum insurance amount is 15,000/30,000/5000, and each insurance policy contains the following.

1- Bodily Injury Liability

It protects you from any claim made against you by the injured as a result of your fault in a car accident that causes the payment of treatment costs, or damage due to loss of work, or suffering and pain, in addition to any other losses resulting from the accident according to the amount stipulated in the insurance policy.

Minimum Bodily Injury Deposit $15,000/$30,000

2- Property Damage Liability

It protects you from any claim against you in the event of destruction of third party property according to the limit agreed upon in the policy, such as damage to third party cars as a result of a collision, breaking a barrier, breaking a glass, or breaking a wall or fence. The policy pays the value of the damages. Minimum Property Damage Liability $5,000

3-Medical Expenses

The insurance policy is obligated to pay the treatment costs to the policyholder or any other passenger injured in the insured car, regardless of who caused the accident. This part is not mandatory, but you are free to choose whether to add it to the policy or not.

4- Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury UMBI

It means that if you or those with you in the car suffer bodily injuries from a person who does not have insurance, your policy provides coverage for you and those with you to pay the cost of treatment according to the amount stipulated in your policy.

5- Uninsured Motorist Property Damage UMPD

This clause allows you to bear the cost of repairing your car up to $3500 if your car is Liability only if you have a car accident for someone who does not have car insurance. But if your car has comprehensive insurance, you do not need to pay the Deductible.

6-Collision

This item covers any losses or damages that occur to your car in the event of a collision with any other vehicle or even overturning. The policy pays the repair costs until the vehicle reaches its condition before the accident. This is done even if you were at fault in the event of a collision or if you were hit and run after paying the Deductible amount stipulated in the policy.

If the cost of repairing the car is 80% of the car's market value, the insurance company pays the total market value of the vehicle, and it is not fixed, and the vehicle is considered, in this case, Total Loss. In many cases, the insurance company offers you to buy the vehicle for a meager price, and in this case, it is a salvage.

7- Comprehensive (other than Collision)

The policy bears the costs of any losses that occur to your car due to fire, vandalism, snow, wind, falling trees, or any losses resulting from a collision with a bird or animal. In the event of theft of the car or some parts of it, such as the battery or tires. In addition to comprehensive coverage in the event of floods.

8- Roadside Assistance (Emergency Road Service)

This item is concerned with towing the car if it suffers a breakdown or any other problems on the road, such as forgetting or losing the car key and services for locking issues, running out of fuel, empty tires, or a damaged battery.

9- Car Rental (Rental Reimbursement)

If your car is repaired due to an accident, you can rent a car, and the insurance company will bear the rental cost up to a maximum of 30 days.

Note, dear reader, that every car insurance policy must contain at least a Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability because this is mandatory by force of law, and whoever drives his car without insurance or a car license exposes himself to legal accountability. As for the rest of the policy, items are optional, and the amount contained in the procedure varies from one policy to another. We also advise that you increase the amount of the insurance policy as much as possible because this will cost you a few dollars and because the legal minimum has not been amended for more than 25 years, meaning that the minimum amount is $15,000/30,000/5,000 in many cases, not enough to cover your Liability to others.

I wish you, dear reader, all safety and security while driving your car.
