Yemen: An oil ship sank off Aden, and fears of environmental pollution

On Sunday, a Yemeni oil ship sank off the port of Aden in southern Yemen amid urgent government measures to contain the repercussions of the incident on the movement of ships.

And the cargo of the dilapidated ship "Dia," which sank off the coast of Brega, west of Aden, spilled oil into the sea.

According to the pictures circulated, the sinking of the ship caused significant pollution on the beaches of the Brega area before oil spots spread to the Al-Hawa area, a few kilometers to the east.

The Yemeni Minister of Transport, Abdul Salam Hamid, issued an official memorandum. He directed the Gulf of Aden Ports Corporation and the General Authority for Maritime Affairs to work jointly to go to the site of the sinking of the ship.

The memorandum stipulated the assessment of the environmental damage and taking the necessary measures, and removing the stricken ship to avoid what it might cause from stopping and impeding the movement of ships.
