Donald Trump’s $2,000 checks could be paid out to 150 million Americans.
Around 150 million Americans could benefit from $2,000 reductions under the Trump administration if the president’s proposal for dividend payments is approved.
Trump proposed issuing a direct payment of $2,000 as a way to give back to Americans after the wide-ranging tariffs he imposed on imports.
Trump wrote on Sunday on Truth Social: “Dividend payments of no less than $2,000 per person (excluding high-income earners!) will be distributed to everyone.”
Since tariffs often lead to higher prices for ordinary Americans, the $2,000 dividend payments could provide welcome relief for many low- and middle-income Americans who have been affected by inflation.
While Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have been discussing distributing dividends from tariff revenues, congressional approval is necessary to deliver the funds to the American people.
