Trump's Trade Settlement

By: Sameh Selim- Member of the United States Press Agency

During President Trump's first term, I published an article in the online newspaper Rosemary News in Washington, D.C., about how to effect change through a trade settlement with China, as a country exporting goods to the American market. However, there was disagreement over implementation methods. I suggested canceling and writing off Chinese debts in exchange for the theft of American trademarks and technology. I sent my article to Congress then, but this policy was never implemented. However, it is now being implemented in a new way by President Trump in his current presidency, which is imposing tariffs on Chinese goods to achieve trade settlement and fairness. It is not US President Trump who is violating international trade laws, as some claim, but rather, some are disregarding China's international trade crimes, foremost among which is the World Trade Organization, which has long ignored international trade laws without deterrence or accountability, imitating and stealing trademarks and selling cheap, low-quality products, sometimes falsifying the country of origin. It has also stolen and imitated American technology, relying on its cheap labor and weak currency to attract investment. Investors

On the other hand, the US market is the largest consumer market in the world. It absorbs Chinese and other global goods and has voracious financial purchasing power. Losing this market would certainly be a major blow to China.

This calls for negotiations to achieve a trade balance between the two countries.

The World Trade Organization seeks to achieve an international trade agreement that guarantees trade fairness for all while not violating ineffective international trade laws, such as protecting countries' patents, trademarks, technology theft, and product counterfeiting, sometimes without mentioning the country of origin, and other violations of international trade laws.
