Fairfax County Police: A man leaves a restaurant to find his car gone, with a 5-years-old girl inside
The girl has since been found, but the police continue to search for the stolen car.
Police continue to search for a suspect after a 5-years-old girl was abducted during a carjacking in Fairfax County, Northern Virginia, on Sunday.
According to a statement from the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD), a man broke into a shopping center on the 6200 block of the Little River Turnpike in Lincoln around 6:30 p.m. He left the car running with his 5-year-old stepdaughter inside while walking into a restaurant to pick up food.
When he got back outside, officers say, the car and the child were gone.
The FCPD has begun searching for the child and starting Operation Amber Alert. Less than an hour later, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) were called to 13th Street and E Street in Northwest D.C. after the child was found alone.
First responders examined the child and found that she was unharmed. She is later reunited with her parents.
Investigators continue to search for the missing vehicle, described as a gray 2012 Honda Accord with Maryland plates 94667CJ, black hood, and damage to the front and rear end.
