The crises of illegal immigrants

The crises of illegal immigrants

By: Madison Cawthorn

While referring to the Book of Micah in a letter to the Newport Hebrew Synod in 1790, President George Washington announced his dream that America would be a nation where "everyone would sit in safety under his vineyard and his fig-tree, and there would be nothing to make him afraid." Washington desired that all citizens be helpful in our "many vocations...and in a timely and happily manner forever."

Now, illegal immigration has reached a near-historic level, with more than a million people pouring across the border in recent months. Unfortunately, this included drug gangs, criminals, sex traffickers, and unaccompanied minors. Moreover, in June, the number of illegal immigration attempts to cross our southern border reached a 21-year high. " However, this is historically inaccurate due to the high temperatures in May and June, making the trip risky. Moreover, rather than discourage these illegal crossings, the Biden administration encourages this activity with incentives such as free plane transportation for taxpayer-supported unlawful immigrants.

Aside from this obvious tax burden to the public, we are already dealing with other pernicious effects of ill-advised liberal politics. New York Times published an article that concluded that our country's crime rate suffered 30% more homicides in 2020 than the previous year. Unfortunately, 2021 offers us no promise that this percentage will be better. We're halfway through the year, and we're already seeing a 24% increase in homicides compared to last year.

At the same time, our nation is still battling high rates of new cases of COVID-19. Currently, we are banning from traveling to certain countries due to infection rates, while at the same time, we welcome anyone from anywhere on our southern border with little to no COVID-19 testing or COVID-19 protocols in place.

The first responsibility of our government is to ensure the safety of its citizens. This is the reason why I introduce the No-Fly for Unlawful Aliens Act. This bill would prevent taxpayer money from paying for air travel to transport illegal immigrants to our country.

Our taxpayer money should meet the poor and working families; Often, our poorest citizens are affected and effected the most by crime in our cities. The constitution guarantees the independence of the people and our nation, and our policies must reflect that.
