Police shoot a man armed with an AR-15 rifle at Target.

Authorities said police shot a man armed with an AR-15 rifle after he opened fire at a Target store in Nebraska.

Police said there were no reports of injuries among employees or shoppers at the Omaha store.

The Omaha Police Department said law enforcement officers responded to multiple reports of an active shooting at the West Omaha Target around noon Tuesday local time.

"The first officers who entered the building confronted the suspect and shot him dead," Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmader told reporters during a news conference on Tuesday.

The suspect, described as a white man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Schmader said the man entered the store armed with the rifle and "lots of ammunition" and began firing. Police said police received more than two dozen 911 calls requesting an active shooter at the store, and multiple shell casings were found at the scene.

According to the police department, the suspect was carrying 13 magazines.

Schmaderer said that it is unknown now if the suspect was shooting anyone.

Schmaderer said there were no reports of civilian casualties after the police conducted several warehouse sweeps. A Target spokesperson stated that all guests and staff had "safely evacuated the store."

Omaha police thanked the "brave" Target employees who had recently undergone active shooting training and "helped get shoppers out of the store."
