New Poll: Nearly 8 in 10 State of the Union watchers agreed with Biden

A new poll published Wednesday showed that nearly 80 percent of those who watched President Biden's first State of the Union address agreed with his remarks.

A new CBS News/YouGov poll shows that 78 percent of Americans surveyed who watched Biden's speech agreed with his comments, while 22 percent disagreed.

Those surveyed were also asked to check all their feelings after watching his talk, and many said they came away with positive emotions. Sixty-seven percent said they felt "optimistic," and more than 50 percent said they felt "proud."

In contrast, 20 % of respondents said they felt pessimistic, 13 percent said they felt angry, and 9 percent said they felt fear.

When asked about Biden's policies, those surveyed responded more positively in multiple areas after the speech than they did before. After watching Biden's speech, 79 percent of respondents said the president's policies would help control the coronavirus pandemic, compared to 70 percent earlier. In comparison, 71 percent said they would deal more effectively with Russia than 60 percent earlier. And 64 percent said they would decline. Compared to 48% before.

A CNN poll also said that most Americans surveyed who watched Biden's speech - 71 percent - had a positive reaction to it. However, the network indicated that more friendly audiences, Democrats than Republicans, tend to attract these Discourses.

In the CBS/YouGov poll, 49 percent of respondents identified as Democrats, while 21 % said they were Republicans and 28% independents.

CNN also noted that approval ratings are generally not affected in permanent or significant ways by State of the Union addresses.

This week, a poll commissioned by the Center for Bipartisan Politics from Morning Consult found that 44 percent of Americans approved of Biden's job as president, marking a slight increase from other recent polls.

The president has dealt with several issues while in office, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, inflation, supply chain issues, chaotic evacuations in Afghanistan, infighting among his party members over passing democratic legislative priorities, and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The CBS/YouGov poll was conducted on March 1 with 1,486 adults who watched Biden's speech on Tuesday.
