Salmonella outbreak in the US linked to onions infects more than 650

US health officials said an onion-related salmonella outbreak had infected more than 650 people in 37 states.

The CDC said at least 129 people had been hospitalized. Nobody died. Almost all diseases were reported in August and September, with the most significant cases in Texas and Oklahoma.

THIS WEEK, the CDC said that an outbreak of red, white, and yellow onions coming from Chihuahua, Mexico, reached ProSource Inc tracked 37 States.

The company told health officials that the last onion import was in late August. But officials said onions can be stored for months and may remain in homes and businesses.

CDC advised consumers not to purchase or eat whole fresh red, white or yellow onions imported from Chihuahua and distributed by ProSource and discard any red, white, or yellow onions that do not have a label or package.
