Eight children were shot in Chicago over the Labor Day holiday

Chicago Police said Eight children were shot in Chicago over the Labor Day holiday, including a 4-year-old killed when bullets flew outside his home through a window and hit him in the head while cutting his hair. Monday.

Frustrated Chicago Police Chief David Brown said at a press conference that children being shot in Chicago are in the crosshairs of criminals and intended targets, both of whom seem not to care if the children are in the way.

“I am not trying to discredit the victim, but these innocent little children should not be a byproduct of your criminal behavior,” Brown said. “This is directed directly at the perpetrators who are being targeted: You know the life you are living, and you know that you are being targeted, or that you did something to cause that retaliation against a rival gang or a rival person. Why do you keep being around young people, our children?”

Brown said that children are rarely targeted directly, adding that "some other perpetrator, gang member, criminal network and beef is almost always targeted" as adults and young adults nearby are targeted as "innocents."

Michal Doagan was the youngest child shot over the weekend, and police were still searching for his killer on Monday. A reward of $9,000 is offered for anyone providing information leading to arrest the person responsible for the child's death.

Chicago police chief said the 4-year-old was at his home in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the south side of the city when a shooting broke out outside the house around 9 p.m. Friday.

"This victim was inside his house in the front area while he was cutting his hair when two bullets penetrated the front window and our victim hit his head," said Rahman Muhammad, deputy head of the investigations department.

The child was taken to the Comer Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
