US CDC Updates Mask Guidelines, Affecting Piscataquis and York Counties

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is updating federal mask recommendations Tuesday, saying that fully vaccinated people should wear masks indoors under certain circumstances.

The CDC has also recommended that everyone in schools from kindergarten through second grade wear masks when classes start again in August, even if some students and staff have been vaccinated.

Tuesday afternoon, Governor Janet Mills issued a statement saying that the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention is reviewing the federal guidance. It expects the review to be completed on Wednesday and will announce any policy changes to Maine after that.

The CDC recommendation applies only to counties with "high" and "high" transmissions. Although most Maine isn't at this point, Dr. James Jarvis of Northern Light Health says that hiding the mask indoors is the best way to maintain this pose.
