Executive orders President Donald Trump will sign today.

In the first round of executive orders, Trump is to end all diversity programs in the US today.

Donald Trump will sign one of about 100 executive orders, one of which will end all diversity and inclusion policies within the federal government, on Monday.

The US president will sign some of the orders from the US Capitol, where his inauguration will be held, and more later at the White House.

Executive orders allow presidents to enact certain policies without congressional approval. They can take effect immediately, but some can later be challenged in court.

Other policy areas Trump will target include planned import tariffs, illegal immigration at the southern border, energy, and Joe Biden's ban on TikTok.

Mr Trump's team members have been working on the orders for months, intending to use them to signal a sudden change in direction from the Biden administration.

Below, The Telegraph looks at the executive orders Mr Trump will sign.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives

Gender

TikTok

Taxes

US Borders

End Birthright Citizenship

Energy Policy

Working from Home

Oil Drilling

Gulf of Mexico

Death Penalty for Police Murders

Electric Vehicle Mandate

Dismantling Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives

Mr. Trump will issue an executive order to end federal diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

According to Axios, the order will direct the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Personnel Management to work with agencies to end "all discriminatory practices."

It will also set monthly meetings between the assistant to the president for domestic policy and the deputy secretaries and outline ways to end diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Gender

Mr. Trump will sign an executive order declaring that the federal government will only recognize two genders.

The order will order the state and homeland security secretaries to ensure that official government documents such as passports and visas reflect only two genders: male and female.

In 2022, the Biden administration allowed citizens to choose an "X" — a gender-neutral mark — on their passports.

TikTok

Trump will suspend the 90-day ban on TikTok in the US, a major victory for the Chinese-owned social media app.

The incoming president has said he hopes the platform can be placed under partial US ownership to address concerns about foreign interference.

The ban briefly went into effect over the weekend but was lifted in hopes that Trump would act once he took office.

Tariffs

The new Trump administration's first tariffs are expected to be announced in an executive order and could include a 25 percent tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico.

Trump has vowed to impose a sweeping tariff on foreign goods, including a 100 percent rate on imports from China and between 10 and 20 percent on every other country.

Trump has demanded that Mexico and Canada do more to crack down on illegal immigration and drug trafficking at the southern and northern borders of the United States in exchange for easing tariffs.

Declaring a national emergency at the border

Trump will declare illegal immigration a "national emergency" in one of his most significant orders, unlocking funding and resources from the Pentagon.

The president-elect has said he will use the US military to enforce the removal of migrants, and he could circumvent Congress by designating the issue a state of emergency.

National emergency orders have previously been used to speed up the federal government's response to the 9/11 attacks, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the war in Ukraine.

Ending birthright citizenship

Trump is expected to issue an executive order ending birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants on his first day in office.

The Fourteenth Amendment states that every child born "within the jurisdiction of the United States" is a US citizen, regardless of their parent's immigration or citizenship status.

Mr. Trump's order aims to end the government's policy of recognizing immediate citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants born on US soil.

Energy Policy

Mr. Trump is expected to declare a "national energy emergency" soon to boost domestic production and lower consumer costs.

The White House's new energy adviser told Axios that such moves are intended to create "conditions that facilitate investment, facilitate job creation, facilitate the production of America's natural resources, and the result will be lower prices for the American people."

The energy-focused package of orders is expected to include one aimed at unlocking "Alaska's natural resource potential" to support the state's natural gas exports.

End working from home for civil servants.

Trump has repeatedly said he will end telecommuting for federal employees.

Trump's incoming deputy chief of staff for policy, Stephen Miller, has told congressional leaders that the president-elect will order some federal employees to return to the office.

"If people don't come back to the office, they're going to be fired," Trump said last month.

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who will jointly lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, have previously said that ordering federal employees back to the office would lead to "a wave of voluntary terminations that we welcome."

Oil Drilling

Trump would reverse some of Biden's restrictions on fossil fuel extraction in his push to "drill, kid, drill" since day one of his second administration.

The orders could include removing some protections for areas of northern Alaska that Biden has designated.

He pledged to increase hydraulic fracturing and cutting policies to encourage green energy production.

Renaming the Gulf of Mexico

Mr. Trump is expected to order the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska's Mount Denali to be renamed to honor "American greatness."

According to the New York Post, the Gulf of Mexico will become the Gulf of America, and Denali will revert to its original name of Mount McKinley.

The executive order would reverse former President Obama's 2015 decision to change the name of North America's highest peak to Denali.

Death penalty for murder

Mr. Trump would restore the death penalty for any illegal immigrant who kills police officers, according to new White House officials.

During his campaign, Mr. Trump called for a mandatory death penalty for anyone who kills a police officer in the wake of the killing of New York Police Detective Jonathan Diller.

It's a cause he has championed since at least 2015, when he pledged to sign an executive order giving "anyone who kills a police officer the death penalty."

Electric Vehicle Mandate

Mr. Trump is expected to issue an executive order to end what he refers to as the "electric vehicle mandate."

Last year, Mr. Biden implemented emissions regulations that included a goal of 56 percent of all new vehicles sold in the United States being electric by 2032.

Electric vehicles accounted for less than eight percent of all new car sales in 2023, and the policy has been widely criticized in states like Michigan, which rely on the auto industry.
