Memorial Day Weekend Weather: Tornadoes, High Temperatures

On Thursday, more than two dozen tornadoes were reported in several states, including Illinois, Iowa, North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.

On Thursday, damaging winds downed trees and power lines in Maine, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia.

Severe weather is expected for Memorial Day weekend, with tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail possibly occurring in cities from Austin, Texas, to Chicago.

It's been a very active week with severe storms and tornadoes, and even more severe weather is expected for Memorial Day weekend.

On Thursday, more than two dozen tornadoes were reported in Illinois, Iowa, North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas.

Thursday also brought damaging winds that downed trees and power lines in Maine, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia.

On Friday, as people hit the road and head to the airport for Memorial Day weekend, the weather is expected to be more severe from Austin, Texas, to Chicago.

Tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail are possible in Dallas and Little Rock, Arkansas. Memphis, Tennessee; St. Louis, Missouri; Indianapolis and Chicago.

On Saturday, Kansas and Oklahoma could witness strong tornadoes, strong winds, and large hail.

On Sunday, the cities at the center of the hurricanes will be St. Louis, Louisville, Kentucky, and Indianapolis.

On Memorial Day, the Northeast will experience heavy rain and thunderstorms. Flash flooding is possible along Interstate 95, especially around Philadelphia and west of New York City.

Record highs are also expected this weekend in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida.

Monday could be the hottest Memorial Day in San Antonio, Houston, New Orleans, and Miami.

The heat index — what temperature feels like with humidity — can reach 100 degrees.
