A New York City man was stabbed in the face while waiting on the Bronx subway platform
A 44-year-old man was stabbed in the side of the face while waiting on a subway platform in the Bronx Sunday morning in the latest violent incident targeting the New York City transit system.
Jared Johnson, 24, was arrested at the scene and charged with assault and harassment, according to the New York Police Department.
The victim's condition was stable after being transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment.
It was not immediately clear if the two men knew each other or exchanged words before the appeal. The attack occurred at Morrison Avenue-Soundview Station in the Bronx shortly after 7:00 AM.
According to NYPD data, crime on New York City's transit system is up 40.8% this year, which slightly outperforms the overall jump of 29.6% across the Big Apple.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced last month that the NYPD would add 1,200 extra shifts each day on the subway to fight crime.
Some victims called on city leaders to do more to combat crime on the subway.
They did absolutely nothing," Elizabeth "Liz" Gomez, a mother of two who was severely beaten by a homeless man in Queens tube station in November, told Dr. Phil this week.
"Because if they were doing something, if they were planning to do something, we wouldn't see this increased violence happening across the city."
