Why are the American flags in Virginia at half staff today?
On Sunday, Governor Ralph Northam announced that American flags would be lowered to half the staff at the state capitol and local, state, and federal buildings.
The Northam office said this was in celebration of the memorial service for fallen firefighters. The announcement follows President Joe Biden's presidential announcement to lower the flag made earlier in the week.
Flags will be lowered at sunrise on October 3 and remain at half-staff until sunset.
