There may be two new stimulus checks on the way
Eligible Americans, so far, have received a total of $3,200 in stimulus checks, not including payments they might have received from the Expanded Child Tax Credit Program. However, many are still grappling with the economic fallout from the pandemic.
Many thought the $1,400 stimulus check distributed earlier in 2021 was the last of its kind, but there is now speculation that this may not be the case.
The House recently voted to introduce a $3.5 trillion budget plan, leaving the Democratic Party in a better position to create a tax-financed social spending package.
Kyle Pomerleau, a tax expert at the American Enterprise Institute, told NBC News that the party is considering a plan that could raise $800 billion, which would be nearly enough to pay two new $1,400 stimulus checks.
However, Democrats would need at least 10 Republican votes to move forward with the plan, but nearly 50 Republican lawmakers have already said they would oppose it.
Partisan tensions make another round of stimulus checks unlikely to be seen any time soon, but not impossible.
