Alabama doctor warns of 'imminent death' after delta variant spreads
Alabama has the lowest coronavirus vaccination rate in the United States, with less than 34 percent of the population fully immunized. Birmingham doctor Brittney Cubaia says she sees dozens of unvaccinated young people dying from the coronavirus and says they told her in bed Death that they want to receive a COVID-19 shot before they get sick
One unvaccinated young man dying of COVID-19 says they wish they had received a dose of coronavirus, an Alabama doctor claims.
Dr. Brittney Kobia, who works at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, confirmed a devastating Facebook post on Sunday and shared it more than 700 times.
I am hospitalizing healthy young adults with a severe infection from COVID. One of the last things they do before intubation is begging me to get vaccinated. I hold their hand and tell them I'm sorry, but it was too late, Kobeya wrote.
"A few days later, when I called the time of death, I hug their family members and tell them that the best way to honor their loved ones is to go for vaccinations and encourage everyone they know to do the same."
Dr. Brittney Cobia, who works at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, says:
So they thank me and get the vaccine. And I return to my desk, write their death note, and say a little prayer that this loss will save more lives."
Only 33.7 percent of Alabama's population is fully vaccinated — the lowest percentage of any state in America.
"So it feels like death is imminent."
